JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB GOAL:
To provide support to the teacher so that the English Language Learner can take full advantage of the instructional program and all available resources.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent and a passing score on the Para Pro Assessment Test, or a minimum of 60 college credit hours.
Demonstrate the ability to speak, read and write a language other than English.
Basic computer skills preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Basic knowledge and understanding of English Language Learners (ELLs).
Knowledge of general computer use.
Willing to learn the unique educational and/or personal needs of an individual ELL in order to be able to assist him/her.
Ability to listen and follow oral and written directions.
Ability to work both independently and as a team member.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communicate effectively with staff and parents.
Translate and/or interpret home/school communication to parents/guardians on an as-needed basis.
Assist in the supervision of students as assigned.
Assist with instructional strategies when directed by certified teachers.
Assist in creating a safe learning environment.

Assist with the preparation of accurate records and reports.

Use specialized equipment as required.
Intervene, when appropriate, to situations concerning discipline of students.
Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
Provide for a safe and secure workplace.
Model and maintain high ethical standards.
Follow attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules.
Maintain confidentiality regarding school matters.
Maintain positive relationships with staff and vendors.
Participate in workshops and training sessions as required.
Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
Follow all School Board policies, rules and regulations.
Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.
Demonstrate support for the School District and its goals and priorities.
Perform other incidental tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
Perform clerical duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid in accordance with the agreement negotiated between the Manatee Education Association (MEA) and the School Board of Manatee County.
Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those in accordance with the agreement negotiated between the MEA and the School Board of Manatee County.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the agreement negotiated between the MEA and the School Board of Manatee County.
