Job Summary: Balcones Recycling is looking to fill the role of General Manager in our Sarasota Material Recovery Facility.
In this role, the General Manager builds operational talent, addresses key operational performance challenges, and implements sustainable standard practices.
You will lead and drive operational efficiencies and deliver expected results in the areas of Safety, Operations, Sales, and Customer Experience.
The General Manager reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Operations.

The position will model and enforce strong safety standards for the entire plant with a goal of zero recordable accidents.

These include the following: Safety and Regulatory Complies with all aspects of the Balcones’s Environment, Health, and Safety Policies.
Ensures that all safety, contractual and regulatory requirements, are met for the processing facility and any rolling stock.
Ensures that all facility staff are trained on relevant safety topics monthly.
Documentation of training is mandatory.
Participates in the Balcones Safety Review Board and Plant Safety Committee.
Divisional Organization Leads and administers an organizational framework qualified to maintain functioning of all divisional departments.
Develops objectives and standards of performance for projects within the Division required to meet corporate goals and objectives.
Manages multiple projects simultaneously from concept to completion.
This includes budgeting, scheduling, and implementation.
Ensures the cleanliness, maintenance and organization of the physical plant and all associated equipment and facilities.
Fosters collaboration between and among personnel and facilitates communication between front-line personnel and corporate leadership.
Operational Activities Executes an effective operational program that maximizes throughput and quality of material with an extremely high focus on safety.
Directs the maintenance of all operating equipment in satisfactory condition.
Directs the transportation and logistics managers in achieving all inbound and outbound shipping goals.
Maintains and understands superior fiber, plastics, and metals production and quality throughout the entire plant.
Works closely with the Commodities Sales team to ensure streamlined movement of material and high-quality products.
Maintains and reviews daily all production-related data for continuous improvement at every level.
Manages local sales team for inbound volume and service revenue.
Communication Communicates goals and objectives regularly, clearly, and effectively with all relevant staff and departmental managers.
Maintains a daily, weekly, and monthly status report for the Vice President of Operations.
Participates in developing an annual budget in coordination with corporate accounting staff and other Division GM’s.
Maintaining Company Culture Creates an environment where all staff members openly practice creativity, teamwork, transparency, and accountability.
Organizes social as well as professional development opportunities for all staff that are focused on enriching their work experience as well as their productivity for the company.
Models and rigorously enforces exacting standards for mutual respect, ethical behavior, and operational excellence amongst staff.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES Experience in recycling, waste management, manufacturing, or similar industry in a plant or general management role.
Experience in and strong understanding of inventory management.
Experience developing and overseeing budgets and tracking and assessing performance with standard financial statements.
Strong organizational, analytical, financial, and decision-making skills.
Strong interpersonal communication skills Demonstrated ability to lead teams, coach, and mentor staff Commitment to Balcones’ mission of environmental protection and waste reduction PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate would be able to demonstrate the following qualifications: College degree and/or 5 to 10 years in a Plant or General management role.
Knowledge of and/or certification in operational best practices and efficiency, such as Lean Six Sigma or Kaizen Bilingual in English and Spanish Comfortable with communication with all levels of employees internally.
Extremely familiar with some of the most advanced recycling sorting equipment in the industry.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Yes TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS Up to 15%, dependent on travel restrictions of the area and/or Company WORKING CONDITIONS Extensively use hands and fingers to manage or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
Frequently required to sit, walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, speak and hear.
Must frequently lift and/or move up to twenty pounds.
Vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
Most working conditions are not in a climate-controlled environment.
