Job Description Summary
The Systems Administrator serves as a key member of the Administrative Computing Team, with primary responsibility of management of the systems which support the College’s Administrative Functions.
The Systems Administrator will supply deep technical expertise with a focus on infrastructure support.
The ideal candidate will have extensive skills in Windows Server Administration, Networking, Server Virtualization and Scripting in a Windows Environment.
Other responsibilities will include supporting system hardware, disaster/recovery planning, systems performance/security monitoring and advanced network/systems troubleshooting.
Working closely with members of Institutional Technology team, the Systems Administrator ensures that we have an efficient, effective, secure and reliable Administrative Systems Infrastructure which meets the dynamic needs of the College’s Students, Faculty and Staff.
Job Description DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist the Director of Administrative Computing and other members of the Administrative Computing Team to design, install, configure and troubleshoot hardware and software which make up the Enterprise Systems Infrastructure Install and maintain server hardware and contribute to workstation hardware support Utilize system diagnostic, performance monitoring and management/maintenance tools to effectively and efficiently ensure high system availability, maximum performance and security Plan, develop, maintain, monitor and coordinate the security of the Administrative Systems Provide Database Administration support in a Microsoft SQL Server environment, including installation, configuration, performance monitoring, security, backup/recovery, as well as performing other maintenance tasks Work in a team environment to prepare, maintain and periodically evaluate a comprehensive information backup and disaster recovery plan for Administrative Computing resources Collaborate with other members of the Institutional Technology team to ensure alignment with the college's strategic and operational objectives Remain current with industry trends by following industry and vendors’ news, meeting with vendors and attending conferences Determine the applicability of security patches, systems upgrades and new technology releases and works with other IT staff to determine impact, recommends implementation timelines and performs deployments including installation and testing Produce technical documents to record system processes, business processes, system topologies and security protocols As a member of the Administrative Systems team: Engage with the user community to keep a pulse on the needs and wants of faculty, staff and students Inform, educate and engage the Director of Administrative Computing regarding issues related to Enterprise Technology standards, processes, capabilities, policies, compliance, security, products and services Provide senior level client support to the administrative offices on workstations, servers and other elements of the Enterprise Systems infrastructure Provide recommendation for capacity planning, acquisitions, configuration, installation and troubleshooting of the Enterprise Systems infrastructure with an emphasis on backend server issues Manage, track and document Enterprise Systems infrastructure assets Serve as a “backup” for other team members, seeking cross training in their areas of expertise and perform those duties in their absence Participate and/or provides opportunities for training and professional development for IT and Administrative staff Serve as a member of the Institutional Technology team whose responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Preparing and implementing the IT information technology plan Assist in the establishment of standards, policies, guidelines and procedures Perform occasional system maintenance tasks during evenings or weekends to minimize system interruptions Perform other duties and implementation of projects as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Documented knowledge of: Deployment and support of client/server systems in a diverse Microsoft Windows environment Database Management Systems such as Microsoft SQL Server Scripting in a Microsoft environment TCP/IP Networking and services including DNS and DHCP Other Microsoft Technologies including IIS, Windows Firewall, IAS, System Center Proven ability to: Gather information quickly and accurately diagnose problems and come up with a range of possible solutions Establish and maintain cooperative and harmonious working relationships with a variety of campus constituencies Make technical issues understandable and an ability to match technical opportunities to Campus goals Evaluate the uses of current technology and to formulate new solutions, Work in a team-oriented environment Thrive in a fast paced, rapidly changing and dynamic environment Learn quickly and adapt to an ever-changing environment Coordinate several projects and adhere to established deadlines Strong interpersonal and communication skills needed to interface effectively with client organizations, technical team members and vendors Proven technical and project management skills Strong attention to detail Customer service and goal oriented Strong work ethic Willingness to learn and improve in all aspects of the position Absolute integrity Education and Experience Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the deployment and management of enterprise class systems including the administration of Windows Servers Active Directory and Group Policy Administration Windows File Servers and associated protocols TCP/IP Networks Preferred: Higher education industry experience
