Job Purpose:
As a Controls & Automation Engineer at Roots Education Co.
(REC), you will be responsible for managing all aspects of REC's components and programming, focusing on new and replacement equipment.
Your role will involve utilizing PLC logic, coding, and programming to enable REC systems to perform various functions efficiently, both with and without human interaction.
Responsibilities:
* Innovate and design manufacturing test equipment and methods for replacement equipment and new product introduction.
* Write comprehensive Statements of Work (SOWs) and provide capital justification requests for new systems.
* Evaluate aged equipment, research new testing technologies, and recommend relevant equipment based on business requirements.
* Generate general specifications for the function and use of systems.
* Ensure adherence to plant manual policies and procedures for all new equipment projects.
* Adhere to applicable SAFRAN Corporate Safety policies for new equipment projects.
* Demonstrate the ability to understand and correct system errors, communication issues, and provide Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA).
* Ensure communication with REC users and implement actions based on user feedback.
* Provide support to other business groups, including training on REC's, processing instructions, recall setups, and general equipment troubleshooting.
* Evaluate Equipment Preventive Maintenance (PM) Plans and implement new PM requirements based on review and event history.
* Achieve target cost savings and department productivity goals.
* Maintain regular, predictable attendance and be willing to work overtime, including weekends as needed
Additionally, oversee the manufacture of products, ensuring consistent adherence to production, performance, and quality standards.
Review production reports to meet safety, quality, financial, and delivery goals.
Provide oversight for product service and customer support.
Collaborate with environmental, health, and safety staff to ensure a healthy and safe working environment in compliance with federal and state regulations.
Assist others with long-range operating goals, expansion efforts, and the implementation of new technologies.
Identify and share training opportunities to build and improve staff skills.
Report to the strategic team, offering market insights and strategic advice.
Ensure clear communication of company policies and legal guidelines.
Assess, manage, and resolve problematic developments and situations.
Requirements:
To succeed in this role, you should have:
* Bachelor’s Degree
* Minimum of 2 years' experience in Controls and Automation engineering.
* Experience with LabVIEW, PLCs, and coding.
* Proficiency in communications to devices (power supplies, O-Scope, and DMM) using serial, GPIB, LAN.
* Experience in designing test stands and working with Technicians.
* Electronics and electrical aptitude with a technical background in electrical test systems.
* Self-starter with a drive for excellence.
* General knowledge of engineering standards, schematics, bill of materials, PCB design, measurements, closed-loop systems, and validation processes.
* Strong ability to collect and interpret data for troubleshooting and problem-solving.
* Ability to translate test requirements into test profiles on multiple types of equipment.
* Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Microsoft Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Master's degree in Controls and Automation.
* Certifications in LabVIEW, PLCs, and coding.
* Proficiency in communications to devices using serial, GPIB, LAN.
* Proficiency in designing test stands and working with Technicians.
* Proficiency in electronics and electrical aptitude.
* Experience with CAD for 3D modeling and drafting.
* Hands-on experience with hand tooling and some machining processes.
* Experience with Think and Do Control Software.
* Experience with Visual Basic programming.
* Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to excel in high-pressure situations.
* Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
Physical Demands:
Sitting 50% / Standing 25% / Walking & lifting 25%
Work Environment:
Split between office work and working at the customer site with staff & technicians.
Travelling is required 60/40 between office and offsite.
