The Production Supervisor is responsible for the shift manufacturing operations combining personnel, equipment and material in the orchestration of the production plan in a safe and efficient manner to meet or exceed the targeted delivery, quality and cost targets in alignment with the operations and overall business strategy.
Leadership, team development and execution are the cornerstones of this position.
This position will work supervise the 3rd shift from 11p-7am.
Daily Review available manning vs required per production plan, solicit additional headcount from peers in other Sarasota campus facilities and/or support staff to counteract any non-planned absences.
Develop break relief schedule based upon need throughout the value stream to meet production plan.
Review current work in process throughout value stream to evaluate available inventories vs production plan to ensure sufficient quantities of components/sub-assemblies are available to support plan.
Adjust manning accordingly to sustain flow to final assembly & test per production plan.
Review current raw material/component inventory vs upcoming daily requirements for the remainder of the week.
Immediately communicate any shortages to materials & purchasing teams.
Develop a changeover plan through analysis of the number of changeovers required with manning, support staff required and estimated times to complete each.
Review actual production performance to hourly goals, drive accountability to meet targets with production team members, document any misses, articulate the issues influencing the misses and solicit actions from support staff.
Review quality checks required per control plan and verify checks have been completed at the specified frequency.
Review “autonomous maintenance” requirements per area and confirm that the required production team member preventive maintenance activities are completed adequately.
Follow up with production team members for any misses in expectations.
Review areas per 5S “What IS and IS NOT normal” workbook, follow up with production team members for any misses in expectations.
Review previous day’s performance to plan to determine weekend production requirements.
Assemble greater team to develop weekend plan if warranted.
Send out daily recap of shift performance from Qliksense to greater Sun hydraulics team.
Conduct daily stand up at beginning of shift with team leaders.
Weekly Functions Review the upcoming week’s production plan with operations, materials, purchasing and technical leadership Review training matrices of each production team member to ensure they have been adequately trained Ensure competent trainers are available to support production team members Lead quality accountability review investigations for any material returned from customers or internal non-conformances; orchestrate disciplinary action process if necessary Mentor production team members in critical/significant characteristics per product prints or S180 specification Champion the 8D process for any non-conformances as a result of customer returns or internal misses Review KPI performance to plan from previous week, update trend, pareto & actions report and publish to Sun leadership team Monthly Functions Review KPI performance to plan for month and bridge any misses with actions to overcome Collaborate with materials manager on upcoming month forecast, determine labor hours, headcount and days of production required to meet scheduled demand Review Kaizen schedule to determine who will be required to attend and plan coverage accordingly Review team proficiency/training matrices to determine deficiencies in process coverage and plan training accordingly Present shift results and actions to improve in monthly operations and/or key staff meetings Bachelor’s degree in operations, supply chain management or a manufacturing/mechanical engineering degree with one year of direct and/or co-op manufacturing experience; or a minimum of five years of successful supervisory experience in a manufacturing warehouse/distribution environment with proven results Self-motivated with strong written and verbal communication skills; Ability to lead and function in a team environment, while effectively communicating across various levels of the organization An adeptness at resolving conflict and drive accountability in a team environment.
A demonstrated ability to identify and understand issues and make appropriate decisions.
Ability to effectively use MRP systems, plant floor and office automation systems/software to effectively command, control and communicate production performance Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Project, Visio and other MS Office standard software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
) Perform other job functions as directed by operations leadership Desired Requirements Lean manufacturing trained with a demonstrated track record of leading teams through Kaizen events in which the core lean concepts (5S, Visual Management, TPM, VSM, Standard Work, etc.
) where leveraged to achieve break through improvement.
Lean certification preferred Six Sigma Green Belt (or higher) trained with a minimum completion of two Six Sigma Green Belt projects.
Certification with at least two projects completed preferred Demonstrated track record of sustaining and improving quality systems in ISO/AS/TS environments Demonstrated proficiency in blueprint interpretation APICS skills/certification (Materials/Production Control) Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) orchestration Fluid Power Controls training & applications experience
