About this role
This position is for an Engineering Services and Support technician who is under direct supervision.
Performs basic technical tasks which contribute to the planning and execution of engineering projects.
Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of engineering tasks.
Assists higher level support staff to confer with engineers on details and implications of test procedures and results.
Responsibilities
Meet with managers and project managers to understand testing requests, test product availability, equipment availability, and detailed report with concise summaries that will be reviewed by all levels of management
Prioritize tasks and testing procedures to meet company and customer goals
Preventative equipment maintenance and repair
Manage GageTrak equipment calibration tracking and shipping coordination
Maintain lab gas, electronic parts inventory, critical spare parts inventory and documentation
Execute parts kitting to support rapid board prototyping at quick turn supplier
Oversee and execute official UL and ULC compliance tests for life safety products
Communicate directly with UL as a Kidde liaison for certification testing
Review schematics and customer requirements for each product to assure accurate tests are being performed for each product
Evaluate and understand the bill of materials to make sure that all of the components are accounted for during the testing
Execute validation and regression level tests
Calibrate products to meet client specifications
Verify functional requirement on new product designs
Track progress on program testing to ensure schedule goals
Document product and procedure test results in an organized manner for leadership and co-workers to review
Conduct testing under direction from design engineering to support failure analysis investigation
Compile and report any unusual conditions or high-risk results that could affect the quality and even safety of the product to leadership using Excel and other testing log software systems
Follow-up with engineering teams on re-designed product or products that needed technical updates/ changes after test results
Review, test, and validate agency requirements for each product to ensure that they all meet standards
Collaborate with the team and share ideas on process improvement
Demonstrate ownership of maintaining existing and creation of new test procedures
On occasion, analyze defective components and/ or product systems
Execute ad-hoc tasks to support the lab and design teams
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
3+ years of work experience in a test engineering lab
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working as a testing technician, test engineer on electronic products, and/or experience working on electronics in a SAE club
Proficient using digital and analog testing equipment such as multi-meters, oscilloscopes
Ability to execute testing and validation tasks within a specific timeline
Soldering experience with a Surface Mount Technology (SMT)
Comfortable working with lab equipment and various hand-held power tools
Understands how to read and interpret schematics, installation sheets, and bill of materials
Interpersonal skills to work with several departments, including engineering and production
Proficient on Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.
