JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB GOAL:
To provide skilled landscape maintenance work using equipment associated with that type of work, drainage maintenance and improvements, asphalt/concrete repairs, chemical application, tree pruning, and assisting specialized personnel with irrigation and fence work.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
One (1) year experience in landscape maintenance.
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Possession of a valid Florida Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) – Class A.
Must be able to obtain license within 120 days of hire.
Must have or be able to obtain within the probationary period, a valid state of Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Public Applicator’s Restricted Use Pesticides License for Ornamental and Turf.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to operate a pickup truck pulling a trailer loaded with commercial riding mower to various facilities to maintain grounds.
Ability to operate both riding and walk behind mowers.
Ability to use weed eaters and other hand-operated equipment to maintain areas such as retention ponds and other sites that are not accessible by mowers.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and use of light trucks and of less complex equipment.
Knowledge of traffic and other regulations governing the use of equipment.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary in the operation of equipment.
Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.

SUPERVISES:

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Apply appropriate chemical application for treatment of weeds and fire ants.
Mowing of District grounds.
Construct or modify drainage plans by the creation of swales, installing pipe or culvert and collection boxes.
Trim trees and heavy brush using chain saws, pole saws and heavy duty “weed eaters.
” Work sometimes involves working from a bucket truck.
Clean out storm drains using high-pressure drain cleaner.
Construct forms, mix, pour and finish concrete on projects such as sidewalks, simple foundations and culverts.
Maintain accurate records of daily work and time and payroll information.
Follow safety standards in performing work and report unsafe conditions to Lead/Manager in a timely manner.
May be required to work after hours and/or weekends.
Travel outside of Manatee County as required in the performance of duties.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Heavy work.
Requires lifting operations involving weights up to fifty pounds.
Requires lifting, holding, carrying, sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual acuity.
The worker is exposed to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions.
The noise level in the work environment can be high at times.
Safety is the highest priority.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan.
Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
